Every great dream begins with a dreamer.
Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience,
and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.
-Harriet Tubman
The most important aspect of December is the Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn. It is happening at 0 Aquarius 29 on December 21st, the Winter Solstice. This is the darkest day of the year and symbolizes the birth of light.
What is also significant is that besides being conjunct, these powerful social planets will have the same declination and will appear like one star. This Great Conjunction is the closest since 1623. The Star of Bethlehem was a Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in Pisces and it was a herald for the coming messiah and the three Wise Men who were Astrologers.
These planets are visible right after sunset in south west sky for about an hour and half here in CA. Go out and see them now as they will become like one star.
In 2020, we ended three major planetary cycles. With this conjunction, we will experience a huge forward moving period. This is a seed-bearing time of great collective change.
This Great Conjunction not only begins a new 20-year social, economic cycle, but it starts a new 200-year cycle in Air signs. For the last 200 years, (1802 – 2020), all but once in 1980, this alignment was in Earth signs. Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn want to build solid structures and accumulate wealth. Earth signs emphasize material and financial concerns. This cycle stimulated the progress and enthusiasm of the Industrial Revolution, which raised our standard of living.
When the conjunctions shift into a new element, it is called the Great Mutation and it marks the end of one era and the start of a new one. The last Air cycle was 13th and 14th centuries (1186 – 1405). During this time, we had the Crusades, Mongolian conquest, and the 100-year war. The signing of the Magna Carta stated the King was not above the law. We had the invention of printing press, hand guns, and eye glasses. Some prominent figures were Rumi, Fibonacci, Marco Polo, St Francis, Dante, and Catherine of Sienna.
As we move into this Air cycle we will shift to a lighter, more technologically advanced society. Grand Conjunctions in signs, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius, historically correspond with rapid social progress, significant intellectual development, and new concepts entering into human consciousness.
The last time we had this Great Conjunction in Aquarius was the beginning of the Renaissance. This resurgence of creativity came after the black plague. This is an interesting coincidence!
This Great Conjunction is near the Fixed Star of Altair. It is a star of prominence that is located in the Eagle’s neck, which denotes looking to the future. Altair deals with leadership, power and ambition. It has the qualities of Mars and Jupiter, which denote fortunate action. This indicates that our government officials will change how they wield power.
Dane Rudhyar’s Sabian Symbols for this Great Conjunction is “an old adobe mission in CA.” This is telling us to strive for something that endures beyond our lifetime. It is to make an ideal concrete culturally and collectively.
In Vedic (Sky Astrology) this Great Conjunction occurs in the Nakshatra, Uttara Ashadha, which is righteous, truth seeking, fair and just. “It is it is told that this sector of the solar system is where the gods defeated the demons long ago.” Ruled by the Sun, it denotes leadership. Again, we can surmise that our leadership will be drastically different.
Aquarius is a humanitarian sign and represents collaboration rather than competition. It more about horizontal power “for the people and by the people.” We will have new forms of group consciousness. We are now entering a new Renaissance with the possibility of peace, inspiration and solidarity.
Aquarius’ shadow side can be overly technological, fanatical, extremist, and hot and cold. It shows a love humanity, but a detachment with people.
This is a huge period of change in history. We are shifting into the Age of Aquarius. This transformation of ages will be complete in 2023-4 when Pluto moves out of Capricorn into Aquarius. Before that time, we are in a massive deconstruction and shifting of power, governments, and political structures.
Jupiter represents the desire for meaning and growth. It signifies optimism, faith and confidence in life. It’s associated with beliefs, philosophy, education, ideals and visions. Jupiter is an expansive, inspiring, and future-oriented energy, bringing luck, knowledge, abundance and grace. Its shadow side can imply arrogance, inflation, and waste. As the “Great Benefic” Jupiter encourages us to connect with something greater than ourselves and expand our horizons, both inner and outer.
Saturn represents the Father principle or, authority, responsibility, wisdom, tradition, and old age. It binds, restricts, limits, and controls, yet builds, brings things to form, and manifests. It’s associated with stability, structure, boundaries, laws, and time. It is a slow, heavy and dense energy that brings repression, yet also increased patience, effort, endurance, and concentration. As the Lord of Karma, Saturn also represents necessity, harvest, and reaping what you sow.
Both of these planets are associated with the collective of humanity and the laws that govern society. They represent opposite archetypes and balance each other. Jupiter expands and Saturn grounds the visions of a greater future. Saturn stabilizes and provides a reality check to Jupiter optimism and ideals.
How does this affect your chart? In which house is 1 degree of Aquarius? Do something constructive there. Define your goals with optimistic visions.
This conjunction will be operating with a square to Uranus, the revolutionary rebel genius. It is exact three times in 2021. It represents challenges to the status quo. There will be resistance to the radical changes. There could be experimentation and uncomfortable disruptions in the process of transformation.
Try to be flexible, keep answering the call, and flow with your creative spirit. Keep your vibration as high as you can with spiritual practices. Its an exciting time with the promise of newness. May the stars bless you!
