Awaken To Tarot is a gift. Beautifully written and illustrated, it serves the awakening of the planet. The crystal clear writing is organized, educational, systematic, and very usable. It takes ancient learning and making it applicable. The reader will find inspiration, timeless guidance, and comprehensive and psychotherapeutic tools to access their own Higher wisdom. I love the fabulous artwork! Karen is as much an artist as a writer.

A Profound Exploration of the Tarot I’m awed by what Karen LaPluma has created in both her “Awaken to Tarot” book and its accompanying exquisite Tarot deck…truly amazed, moved and deeply inspired by this contemporary teaching and guidance for awakening. She brings considerable depth and beauty to this work, and makes it easy for a novice such as me to enter into and use its revelatory mysteries.

Comprehensive , like an encyclopedia. As I reviewed Karen La Puma’s new book the word that kept coming to mind is encyclopedic, as in comprehensive and inclusive.

It’s a reference work unto itself, and it’s also encyclopedic in that it’s part of a larger set of books the author has been creating, and will soon publish, on a range of healing practices called a Toolkit for Awakening, based on themes of the Hero’s or Heroine’s Journey.

This volume, Awakening Tarot, the first of the series, is about tarot as a set of supernatural aids one finds on the spiritual path. She covers the interrelationships between tarot, astrology, numerology and Qabalah, which form a foundation of the western esoteric tradition.

Tarot is a practice of divination, dating back several hundred years and using images displayed on a set of 78 cards that La Puma likens to unbound books. The 22 major arcana give us the principles of the journey of life. The 56 trump cards, correlated with the four elements, give us the life lessons and teachers we encounter along the way.

This book, as part of the Toolkit for Awakening series, is about becoming your own guide. Karen La Puma role models her tool kit approach by having created her own tarot deck for this book and series, implicitly encouraging any practitioner of tarot and the other divinatory arts to take traditional symbols and make them one’s own. This is no copy-cat approach to received wisdom. The cards, she writes, are “external mirrors from which you can hear your own inner guidance.”

Throughout the book, La Puma shows how each of the cards correlates with the 10 planetary forces used in astrology, the 12 zodiacal signs, numbers and the 10-fold Tree of Life. At the end of the book, she offers multiple creative ways to do a tarot card spread. She shows, for example, how to use the numerology of one’s own date of birth to locate a number, which corresponds to one of the major arcana cards and all of the suit cards with that number.

I’d like to have this book on my shelf to consult with, like any encyclopedia, when I’m wondering about the meaning of a tarot card I’ve drawn or when pondering a life theme and seeking imagery to guide an inquiry. There are endless ways to use Awaken to Tarot as part of the encyclopedia the author is creating and offering.

Your personal Wisdom Oracle with Stirring Artwork. “Awaken to Tarot “by Karen La Puma is a superior, practical guide to divination and self-empowerment. What amazes me about Karen’s work is the masterful way she weaves together her deep knowledge of Tarot, Astrology, Jungian Archetypes, Enneagram and Divine Feminine to guide and liberate her readers. Filled with practical, real-life application examples, this book is a treasure that will show you how to tap into inner guidance and awaken your internal allies. That is sorely needed by most people nowadays.

The companion “Awaken Tarot Cards” deck Karen offers features deeply stirring symbolic artwork that goes way beyond traditional Tarot decks. Make sure you order that along with her book. I never used to be interested in Tarot, and now I’m drawing cards and meditating on them often.

This book was exactly what I needed. Insightful, inspiring, and full of esoteric wisdom. Perfect tool for reference when learning about tarot, when looking up the meaning of a specific card, or simply for more inspiration on how to use tarot more in everyday life. Best when used with Karen La Puma’s Awaken to Tarot cards. I loved how this book references different modalities of spirituality; Tarot, astrology, numerology, and more. Furthermore, with how they all complement each other and can give a more complex understanding to the ritual. Would recommend this book to anyone on the spiritual journey to awakening.

It’s not stated anywhere in the description, but this is a guidebook for Thoth, not Rider Waite Deck. I’m writing that to avoid confusion. If you’re looking for a good Thoth guide, this is one to buy.

Karen La Puma has designed a tarot deck that goes with the book Awaken to Tarot. Inside the book each card is pictured in full color with a complete description, planet and astrological sign alignment. There are pages of information for each card, not just a quick paragraph. The author states questions with each card, giving the reader inspiration when doing a draw or spread. The great thing is, if the reader does not have a set of Awaken To Tarot cards, this information can apply to any tarot deck on hand. That aspect alone makes this a must have for anyone that works with Tarot and the metaphysical.

Although I do not have a set of the Awaken to Tarot cards, I can easily tell by viewing them that they are beautiful. Each card is filled with vivid bright colors and the art is exquisite. There is something very jubilating about looking at incredible artwork that brings light into a reading.
Awaken To Tarot cards are set up with the ten pip cards from Ace to ten and the four face cards Knights, Queens, Princes and Princesses making a suit. The four suits are Swords, Cups, Wands and Disks. In other decks names might be changed to represent each of these cards. Some of the decks I have used Coins in place of Disks, or Knives in place of Swords. Most cards I’ve used are King, Queen, Knight, Page. Every deck is unique in its design.

The author writes with an angelic tone that does not threaten or demean anyone’s beliefs or religion. In fact, Karen provides pages of information for the reader to find a sense of self empowerment to listen and find the answers that are locked in our unconscious mind. The information provided gives the reader tools, whatever their beliefs may be or however they personally use the Tarot.

Awaken To Tarot is full of valuable information and I feel blessed to have it in my possession to refer to as often as I like when I am doing a tarot reading for myself. I am certain I will go to this book over and over again for inspiration and guidance while working with Tarot.
